Tom studied trumpet at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studied with Alan Thomas and Andy Stone-Fewings. Whilst in Birmingham, he was able to play alongside groups such as Welsh National Opera, Central Band of the RAF, Coldstream Guards, CBSO and The Orchestra of the Swan. During this time, Tom was also able to receive tuition from a number of guest artists, including Allen Vizzutti, Phillip Cobb, Simon Höfle, Rex Richardson, Sarah Willis and Eric Miyashiro.
In 2018, Tom was the winner of the Alfred Corfield Trumpet Prize, a solo recital competition. Tom enjoys playing a wide range of musical styles and has played in a number of various settings, such as symphony orchestras, operas, musicals, chamber music, contemporary music and recordings. Tom has played in venues such as Symphony Hall Birmingham, Norwich Cathedral, Ely Cathedral, Royal Albert Hall and Cadogan Hall. Some musical highlights have been playing the Rite of Spring in Symphony Hall, Playing live on BBC Radio 3 conducted by Mirga Gražinytė-Tylaand and playing with the CBSO in Birmingham opera company's award winning production of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. Tom is extremely passionate about education and works as music teacher in a high school in Norfolk. He is also a brass tutor for Guildhall Young Artists Norwich and for Triorca. |
Toby Carr is a trombonist based in Norwich, Norfolk. He received an entrance scholarship for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, studying with Ed Jones, Tony Howe and Richard Watkin. He was awarded the RBC Brass Prize in this time, and graduated in 2020 with first class honours. During his time at the Conservatoire, he played in a variety of orchestral projects, and led the trombone sections of the Jazz and Ellington orchestras for the Jazz department. Performance highlights while there include Mahler 6th Symphony and Stravinsky Rite of Spring both at Symphony Hall Birmingham, and Ellington’s Sacred Music at Lincoln Cathedral. Toby is also an alumnus of the CBSO Youth Orchestra, CBSO Orchestral Training Scheme and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia side by side scheme. Toby has enjoyed a varied freelance career, with orchestras, big bands, brass chamber groups, contemporary and original music ensembles, function bands and cruise ship work. While studying, Toby gained an interest in brass instrument manufacture, and combines his playing and private teaching career with work as a brass instrument maker, making modern and baroque trumpets and trombones with Matthew Martin of Norwich Natural Trumpets.

Arved von Hagen (*1994) is a German (bass) trombonist. He teaches brass instruments at the County Music School Schleswig-Flensburg. As a musician he performed with many symphony and opera orchestras such as National Theatre Mannheim, Gernan State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate or Schleswig-Holstein State Theatre and Symphony Orchestra.
He is the conductor of Gelting Wind Orchestra and Wind Orchestra Haddeby and has been lecturer for the brass to other German and international wind and symphony orchestras. Arved has studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim, the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Royal Conservatoire The Hague with Prof. Ehrhard Wetz, Prof. Brandt Attema, Ben van Dijk, Jörgen von Rijen and others. |
Born in 1988 to a musical family, Tadeusz Kaznowski grew up in Norwich, Norfolk. From a young age, Tadeusz played the French horn in the Norfolk County Youth Orchestra. As both conductor and horn-player, he went on to perform with local orchestras in a variety of chamber and large orchestral settings. Subsequently, he studied at Canterbury Christ Church University where his composition teachers were Prof. Paul Edlin, Prof. Roderick Williams and Dr. Matthew Wright.
Tadeusz gained both Bachelors (1st class) and Masters degrees in Conducting and Composition, exploring the communicative possibilities between leader/conductor and ensemble, as well as exploring aleatoric music. During this time, he had opportunities for tuition with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Prof. Paul Patterson Whilst resident in Canterbury, Tadeusz drew upon the local performing community to create new works including a Viola Study for Martin Outram (Maggini Quartet), Les Cloches d’eglise pour cors for five horns - for Anthony Halstead and a piece for ensemble and electronics, Blow, Bugle, Blow! for Matthew Wright. As conductor, Tadeusz has had the privilege of studying under the tutelage of Howard Williams, Peter Stark, Elgar Howarth and George Hurst. Tadeusz’s experience as a conductor comprises leading a number of Orchestras and ensembles around the UK. He has given premieres of new works by up-and-coming composers such as Sam Messer and has worked with Kari Rydman. More recently, he has enjoyed working with the Norwich Philharmonic Orchestra, Norwich Baroque, Norfolk Symphony Orchestra, Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, Southend Orchestra, Ensemble East and performing as the principal conductor of the Norwich Mozart Orchestra and the recently formed Norwich Sinfonietta. |
